I don’t often visit London anymore, and when I do, my visits are always fast whirlwind style rushes, to pick up some essential materials mostly. When a friend visited from Finland, again time was limited but we did manage a compressed sightseeing tour by foot, drawing on my having lived there for 11 years. On this occasion I was intrigued by the juxtaposition of modern day graffiti (on the walls of Neal’s Yard, Covent Garden) and the ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics and paintings on sarcophagi.
